St. Tropez

About an hours drive from the house, you find one of the most famous villages on the French Riviera, St. Tropez. Brigitte Bardot transformed this peaceful fishing village into a sizzling jet-set favourite when she starred in the 50s movie And God Created Woman, and Tropeziens have thrived on their sexy image ever since: at the Vieux Port, yachts like spaceships jostle for millionaire moorings, and it is a favorite vacation spot amongst Hollywood’s film stars.

It can be busy during summer, but out of season St-Tropez is a mesmerising quaint beauty with ‘sardine scales glistening like pearls on the cobblestones’  (Guy de Maupassant). Meander cobbled lanes in the old fishing quarter of La Ponche, sip pastis at a place des Lices cafe, watch old men play pétanque beneath plane trees, or walk in solitary splendour from beach to beach along the coastal path….
