In the middle of the Villecroze village there is a large open square, surrounded by pretty buildings, trees and with many nice cafes. A visitor might think this is the main attraction in Villecroze, but keep exploring because the town has much more to offer…
Troglodyte caves
One remarkable sight in Villecroze is the troglodyte caves of Villecroze on the eastern edge of the village and behind the main centre. This is now a park where you can enjoy a picnic and a look around the gardens, with a backdrop to the gardens of a large cliff with troglodyte dwellings and a 35 metre high waterfall. The park is lovely covering 2.5 hectares and very well implemented. If you want to visit the caves, here is the official site in English, providing information about opening hours and prices.

Old medieval village
Return to the main road through the centre of Villecroze and walk a short distance down the hill to reach the historic city centre of this walled medieval village. You can enter this part of the village through a small arch next to the church in Place de l’Eglise.

The old town is unspoiled and pretty with numerous old stone houses along the narrow cobbled streets, many with traditional features such as stone staircases. You will also notice many beautiful old stone fountains: there are seven to discover in the centre of Villecroze.

Rue des Arcades is one of our favourite streets in Villecroze, with numerous arches across the street, while other streets have lots of plants or lead you to a small hidden square in the heart of the village. There are also one or two very quaint small cafes in the old centre, as well as places where you have nice views across the countryside.

If you leave the village towards the west you can see the pretty little Chapel of Saint-Victor, in roman style and with a cemetery and ancient olive trees. Click here for location on map.

Villecroze is dating from the 12th century. With its friendly life and atmosphere it is a desirable location in which to live – away from the tourist-tracks – but active and alive all through the year. You meet the French inhabitants, and you will find pleasure in the local friendly life of the village.

Every Thursday morning Villecroze hosts a charming and very useful market offering local products; fruit, vegetables, cheese, fresh fish, poultry . . . . . everything you need for a decious lunch and dinner at “home”.
In one of the two cafes in the village you may fall into the rhythm of the local Provencal life picking up your news-paper and a fresh baguette and croissants at the bakery, or for an aperitiff in the evening. For lunch or dinner you may choose between small charming places or visit gourmet-restaurants,
